Monrovia, December 5, 2019: Golden Veroleum Liberia (GVL), has raised concerns about a recent report by James Torh of the Independent National Commission on Human Rights (INCHR).
As a result INCHR has issued a clarification that Mr Torh’s comments are his own opinion and do not reflect the commission’s official view.
Specifically, GVL management expressed concerned that Mr Torh’s largely untrue statements, describing GVL as “embroiled in controversy”, were made in public through local and international news outlets, and not brought directly to GVL management.
While the company remains open to constructive appraisals, GVL takes issue with claims that could derail the company’s reputation.
As a business, GVL complies with Liberian laws and regulations and as a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, (RSPO), the company works to comply with its Principles and Criteria including respecting the rights of workers and host communities.
GVL welcomes INCHR’s clarification and looks forward to a productive relationship moving forward.
