Land Grab Allegation Published in Daily Observer

Monrovia –  Golden Veroleum Liberia (GVL) Inc believes that an article published by the Daily Observer in its October 6th edition titled “Affected Women Plead for Gov’t Protection Against Mining Companies in which they accused GVL of land grabbing, harmful environmental impacts, and cultural desecration is inaccurate and misleading.

GVL signed a Concession Agreement with the Government of Liberia to develop oil palm and has nothing to do with mining as mentioned in the reports.

Furthermore, GVL’s Concession Agreement requires that it ensures that any development is done following a process of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) with affected communities.  All of GVL’s developments are done in areas where there are agreements with communities.

GVL also has a process where community members can raise grievances pertaining to its activities where GVL is required to investigate and respond to any grievance.

GVL welcomes community members who have raised the claims as reported in the article to contact us and we will investigate these fully.
